Key Components

OUTER SHELL:

  • External layer that provides structural integrity and protection to the contents of the luggage.
  • This includes the film coating on luggage if applied. The outer shell excludes logo, binding, handles, lock, and any other accessories.

HANDLE SYSTEM:

  • The retractable mechanism built into luggage, allowing users to easily tow or roll the luggage behind them. Includes the trolley tubes, bezel, handle, and interior support mechanisms (including brace, bracket).
  • This excludes screws and rivets used to affix the handle system to the bag.

INTERIOR LINING:

  • Material or fabric used to cover the inner surface of a bag including but not limited to partitions, dividers, pockets.
  • This excludes any accessories or attachments such as mesh, binding, compression straps, buckles, and wet pockets. This also excludes structural frames and backing.

WHEELS:

  • The rolling components attached to the bottom of the luggage. This includes the inner and outer wheel housing, the wheel tire, wheel axle, fork, plastic bushing, and hub cap.

Additional Components

ACCENT TRIMS:

  • Exterior or interior trim fabrics, bindings, and webbings that account for less than 10% of the exterior or interior fabric. These are typically leather, polyurethane (PU), or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

CARRY HANDLES AND INNER HOUSING:

  • Any handle, excluding the pull-handle, that is used to pick up the luggage, excluding rivets and screws.

COMPRESSION STRAPS AND BUCKLES:

  • Straps inside the luggage to compress and secure belongings along with the clasps.

FABRIC FOR EXPANDABLE COMPARTMENT:

  • The material used to construct the expandable portion of the luggage. Typically polyester.

GASKET:

  • The strip typically made from rubber or a similar flexible material, typically located along the edges of the suitcase. Used for binding.

HINGE:

  • The mechanism that enables the opening and closing of the suitcase. Typically made of fabric with backing.

IDENTIFICATION TAG / LUGGAGE TAG:

  • An identification tag not incorporated in the trolley bezel, including holder/strap.

LOCK:

  • Mechanism used to secure a bag.

LOGO PLATES:

  • Plate displaying company name or initials of owner.

MESH:

  • Netting or fabric characterized by open spaces between the yarns.

REMOVABLE ACCESSORIES:

  • Any detachable accessory of the product.

STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS:

  • Various elements in between the outer fabric and the lining, providing structure to the product. These can vary from SKU to SKU and can include backing material, steel wire, foam, polypropylene (PP) board, polyethylene (PE) board, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) backing, non-woven.

WET POCKETS:

  • Interior pockets typically made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or thermoplastic elastomer (TPE).

ZIPPERS:

  • The interlocking closure mechanism used to secure the main compartment and any other compartment of the luggage. This includes the teeth, tape, puller, and slider.
